Oberon Council – Local Government Services.

Oberon Council is an independent local council, with its administration located in the main street of Oberon. Council Services include Library, Community Centre, Visitor Information Centre, Oberon Youth Council, Swimming pool, Indoor tennis complex, Recreation Ground and sporting fields. Council is also responsible for cemeteries, the pound, sewerage and water supply, parks and gardens, playgrounds and skate parks. Council organises the Australia Day ceremony and is responsible for roads, development, planning, health, waste and recycling.

Formed at a public meeting in March 1906, Oberon Council Local Government Area covers approximately 3,660 square kilometres.

Oberon LGA is located in central west NSW. Oberon is surrounded by interesting villages and National Parks. Jenolan Caves, Kanangra Boyd National Park, Blue Mountains National Park and Abercrombie River National Park are in the local government area. They all offer spectacular scenery.

Prime lambs and beef cattle are the main rural industries.  However, pine plantations dominate the landscape of the Oberon LGA and timber processing is the major secondary industry. There are also a number of boutique businesses including truffieres, tree nurseries, nut tree plantations and bulb farms. New ventures and experimental enterprises are also developing.
