Intermediate Wild Edible Mushroom Foraging

Sunday 18 May

Join us for a magical day out in the forest where you’ll learn the how, when and where of wild mushroom foraging. You’ll also learn how to preserve your seasonal bounty and enjoy a wild mushroom tasting.

Wild edible mushroom foraging – Oberon

This workshop is designed for those who have already done either our beginners workshop or have previous pine mushroom foraging experience and can confidently identify both Saffron milk caps and Slippery Jacks + Jills.
We will once again cover the basics of the what where and when of pine mushroom foraging however will also delve into details of at least 5 other edible mushrooms, their lookalikes, and how to tell them apart.  Plus we will identify and discuss an assortment of other notable forest fungi. It is your chance to expand your knowledge and your tastebuds beyond the familiar and easy-to-identify saffies and slipperies.

The location has been chosen so you can head out and not only gather some of the usuals but also use your newly acquired key outs to hunt for some new-to-you varieties.

Towards the end of our workshop, and hopefully, with a full basket and variety of freshly picked mushrooms, you’ll get to taste a cooked selection including honey fungus + grey knights plus Marnee’s delicious Saffy Jerky. YUM!!!!

But the deliciousness doesn’t stop there. Post workshop you’ll be emailed a pine mushroom-specific Ebook packed full of Marnee’s original and tasty recipes including step-by-step guides to making meaty mushroom jerky, risotto, and arancini to name a few.

ABOUT YOUR GUIDE:

Diego has been pioneering the edible mushroom workshops in NSW, empowering people with the ancient skills of foraging for food for over 20 years. Diego is a wild edibles advocate, most famous for his offering of urban foraging workshops. Building on the knowledge acquired while growing up on a farm in Italy, Diego introduces people to the ever-present food and medicine plants that surround us. He collaborates extensively with chefs, herbalists, environmentalists and cultural workers promoting a new understanding of what the environment has to offer.
