Forest to Field Oberon 2019
During April 2019 ‘Field to Forest’ is a month-long array of activities in and around the Oberon region that explores the delicacies and rare finds that one can forage for across the region. The activities include specialised forage tours for wild mushrooms, secluded forest lunches, a newly launched wine trail and workshops with experts recounting their skills and know how on foraging in the forest.
4WD Foraging Tour – April (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday Departures)
This special 4WD Foraging tour has been created for you in partnership with Oberon Visitors Information Centre for the very first F2F Oberon 2019. It is a great experience for those wanting to get out and about in amongst the pine forests of Oberon. Departing from Oberon Visitors Information Centre, seats are strictly limited so please book early.
You’ll be treated to a great 4WD trip to some of the more remote areas of the forests, where identification and forging are at its best. See and learn about the area, enjoy the comfort of a luxury 4WD and have fun. This 2 hour tour is fun for all.
Forage, collect or simply photograph mushrooms in the wild. Take in all the sensations of the pine forests; the sights, the rich pine smell and the atmosphere.
Oberon Wine and Beer Trail – Sat 6th April & Sat 27th April
To celebrate the inaugural F2F, vignerons, artisans and local producers across the region will come together to launch Oberon’s first ever wine trail. Enjoy custom tastings, country hospitality and some of the finest produce from across the Oberon region. The tour includes transport, Oberon wine glass, and all tastings. Lunch is at your own expense.
Introduction to Forest Foraging – Sat 13 April
Join speakers from a broad section of Forestry, Urban Foraging, and Farming as we explore the issues, opportunities, and techniques required for safe and sustainable wild food foraging. This Free introductory session at the Oberon Visitor Information Centre will give would-be foragers a true insight into the activity and a unique view towards the history of the activity in and around Oberon.
Diego Bonetto’s Mushroom Forage to Feast Experience – Sun 14th April
Join environmental educator and wild food advocate Diego Bonetto on an edible adventure through the forests around Oberon. The renowned forager will share his knowledge of how to identify, harvest and cook wild mushrooms. Diego has been featured in media such as Gardening Australia, Marie Claire, LonelyPlanet, SMH and ABC and SBS Radio/TV.
